Graham Matthews Youth Club – Welton

Welton is quite an unusual village in not only having a large secondary school, but also having a modern purpose built youth centre too.

The Graham Matthews Youth Centre is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 7.00 and 9.30pm and is open for any young people aged 13 to 19. The club is run and staffed by workers from Lincolnshire County Council Youth Service who have a series of general themes to follow (in order to meet Ofsted standards) but they are exceptionally keen to base the activities of the club upon the ideas and interests of young people.

Whilst the programme regularly changes to reflect the wishes of the young people, we find that some themes run through all our work. Sport plays a major part in our programme with Tuesday evenings including a session in the school sports hall, whilst music is an ever present and our small art room is heavily used. Young people are encouraged to not only identify programme events, but also to help plan them too – which can add interesting aspects to people’s records of achievement!

With our programme including such a wide range of changing activities, our opening sessions may occasionally change. People are more than welcome to just come along and see what’s happening, but we are more than happy to answer enquiries by either phone – 01673 866493 or to ian.layton@lincolnshire.gov.uk
