Welton is part of the Gainsborough constituency for the UK parliament, part of the Welton Division for the Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) and part of the Dunholme and Welton Ward for the West Lindsey District Council (WLDC).  The Parish of Welton has its own parish council.

Many people are confused as to which level of government is responsible for what service and so the following, hopefully, will provide some clarification.

The County Council (LCC) is responsible for:

Education, Social Services, Highways, Traffic and Transport, Strategic Planning, Trading Standards, Refuse Disposal (not collection), Libraries, Economic Development for the county, Community Safety, Fire, Emergency Planning, Concessionary Fares, Arts and Tourism

West Lindsey District Council (WLDC)

The District Council (WLDC) is responsible for:

Housing Strategy, Collecting Council Tax and Business Rates, Housing Benefits, Environmental Health, Planning, Building Control, Dog Control Services, Leisure and Recreation, Arts, Tourism, Gainsborough Market, Off-street Car Parks, Refuse Collection, Electoral Registration, Community Safety, Economic Development for the district, and Licensing

Green bins for compost recycling are provided by WLDC and are collected to a published timetable throughout the year.

Members of the parish council are in attendance on the first Saturday of each month from 10am until noon in the Parish Office to meet and talk with parishioners. Appointments with individual councillors can also be made by contacting the clerk to the council, Mrs Julie Murray, either by phone on 860336, by e-mail or by calling at the Parish Office during the week. Full Parish Council Meetings are held in the Village Hall on the second Monday of each month (with the exception of August) and usually start at 7.30pm.
